Haiku Poems

Haiku is a traditional form of Japanese poetry and is written in three phrases. The poem has a rule of 5/7/5 syllable count.

Free Verse Poems

These are poetry which is free from limitations of the regular meter or rhythm. There is no formula and no pattern for these poems. Free verse poems are deliberately irregular and get the flexibility to express his thoughts without following any rhythm rules.

Cinquains

This form of poetry is inspired by the Japanese haiku and is just five lines long poem. There are many variations of cinquain including American cinquains, reverse cinquains, butterfly cinquains, crown cinquains, and didactic cinquains.

Epic Poems

As the name suggests epic poems are long story type poetry. These poems are mainly written to narrate poetry or tell a story about a hero or an adventure.

Ballad Poems

Ballad poems are typically arranged in quatrains with the rhyme scheme ABAB. These are also storytelling type of poems which is often based on a legend or a folk tale.

Acrostic Poems

Acrostic poems are also known as name poems. In this poem, the first, last or other letters in a line spell out a particular word or phrase. The simple form of this poem is where the first letters of each line spell out the word or phrase.

Sonnet Poems

Sonnet has 14 lines and is written in iambic pentameter. Each line of the sonnet poem has 10 syllables. It has a specific rhyme scheme, and a volta or a specific turn.
